Glass Museum

Museum delving into the history of glassmaking, featuring glass items from ancient times to the present day.

Though glass was known in the Middle East for millennia, the invention of glassblowing in the 1st century BCE revolutionized production and spread its use across the Roman Empire.

The golden era

By the 14th century, Venetian glass production was well established, but it was the invention of clear glass in Murano - transparent and completely pure - that cemented Venice’s status as the premier center of glassmaking.
